Devastating news for Richmond’s 2009 slim finals chances, with Matthew Richardson having torn his hamstring, and requires surgery which will see him out for at least 11-12 weeks, but you have to think has the possibility ofending his season and possibly his career.
Inevitably, this will be bad for our chances this year – ultimately we will win fewer games than if we had him in the team. But the question has to be asked about whether this might be a good chance for our forward structure to settle a little bit, without the safety net that Richo has offered. Basically, if the forwards weren’t marking and scoring, Wallace could put Richo back there. Now, with the safety net taken away, Jack Riewoldt, Mitch Morton and co. will be forced to stand up and push through when things are getting difficult. Will it work? Probably not, at least not most of the time. Will it be good for them? You have to think so.
