In a must win game, we didn’t lose. But we were ultimately saved only by a beautiful 16 minute passage of play where we kicked 8 quick goals, to come from behind the Dees early in the match. From there, we held on. Not a beautiful display of greatness - but we didn’t lose!
Riiiiiiiiiiiichoooooo! I want to be a Richo-man. What a beautiful creature the big ugly man is. Richo was dominant once again, to the point that Dean Bailey felt he needed to plead Matty’s case for winning the Brownlow (though I think he’s unlikely to win given the few games the Tiges are likely to have won by the end of the year. And he kicked beautifully at goal. 5 goals straight is the sort of return you’d dream about from the big fella.
Cotchin once again put in a decent game, including winning the ball to handball off for Tucky to kick the sealer late in the game. I love him. Cotchin has reserved his spot in the hearts of Tiger-people everywhere for many years to come. Tambling even played some good footy, which is encouraging given that he has been pretty out of form since the dreamtime match. Browny was scintillating: kicking some goals that turned back the clock, and proving that the broken leg hasn’t ruined him forever. Really positive signs from Dr Pink. And that 16 minute period was the lifesaver of the match, with Deledio running beautifully with the ball out of the centre and finding targets: that’s the football the everyone in yeller and black wants to see
For most of the game, the 16th placed team in the league looked better than us. We’ve got to be able to close out matches, put the foot down for more than a quarter here or there. Four quarter football is the desperate need for the Tiges. Play like that for most of the game, and we’d be a finals side. As the ledger stands, it would be hard to see the good guys making the 8 this year.
3 - Matthew Richardson
2 - Nathan Brown
1 - Brett Deledio
A bit of a nothing win, but a win. We will need to do better next week over Port.
