Dear Greg,
Please understand that I am writing this as an ardent supporter of yours, over many years. The exclamation of “Tiv!” has come from my mouth many more times in joy than it has in anger. I have many sweet memories of that trusty left foot scoring a beautiful running goal from just on the 50, but there is something that needs to be said. It’s been a long time since you’ve kicked goals like that with a golden sash across your chest, rather than the Coburg red one.
I know what you’re thinking - “what about how well I’m playing in the VFL?” And you’re right - you have proven yourself as a very capable VFL footballer. But there have been too many chances to convert that form into quality senior side performances, chances that have had you looking out of your depth. As much as it hurts to have to tell such a beloved player that the time is up - it appears that the modern game has moved on just a little too quickly for you.
So here’s my suggestion, Greg. Organise a quick chat with Terry and the Millster, and let them know that you’d like a farewell game. One last chance to play in front of a big crowd at the ‘G and to let us scream for you once again. Hopefully you’ll even slot one on the run and we can feel nostalgic. But that needs to be all. You’ve had a great career, and you’ll no doubt be a decent player in the VFL for a few more years: you certainly have the talent to keep that up, and I’d imagine you should be able to take some young players under a wing and teach them the game. But we need that senior spot back, and even though we’ll have to wait until the end of the year for it - better to spruik for a farewell game while you’re playing well enough to get it than later in the year when you can’t be so certain.
Wishing you all the best

So you are the offender giving players depression by what is written on websites?

Must be! To be honest, I think that Greg is more likely to be depressed by being called a “list clogger” by Gary Lyon than worry about anything I have to say. But he shouldn’t lose heart, it happens for everyone

Can Gary Lyon talk?? From what i remember he clogged up a spot trying to get back onto the field with his dodgy back. maybe he should have retired sooner and then he can comment about Greg.
