Come on, you’ve got to pay some credit for the title there. The Herald Sun would be proud. Ben Holland has made some pretty serious allegations about business opportunities that were offered as compensation for not taking a sweet deal at Adelaide, by former Tigers’ president Clinton Casey. Basically he’s alleging that in order to stop him from going to Adelaide, Clinton offered him a bunch of “opportunities” under the table (and outside of the salary cap) that never eventuated. From the Age:
“VETERAN Melbourne player Ben Holland is suing his former club, Richmond, and former Tiger president Clinton Casey for lost “business and investment opportunities” that he claims he never received in a 2001 agreement that may have breached the AFL salary cap.
…The statement says that in October 2001, Casey, a property developer, in the presence of then Tigers coach Danny Frawley, offered inducements that would compensate him for the $530,000 difference between a contract offered by Adelaide, also in that month.” (Source: “Holland sues over Tiger deal“)
While everything in me wants this to be a case of sour grapes and a made-up case: it seems at least a decent chance that this is going to bite us on the butt. And it would almost kill the club if we ended up with the sort of sanctions that have crippled the Blues for the past four or five years. Lets hope this blows over.

Technically it doesn’t sound like you’ve done the salary cap because he wasn’t given those things.

Yeah, but if you look at the article, neither did some of the Carlton guys:
I do like your logic though
