After a very, very long time, Mark Coughlan will get back out on the field, and with a bit of luck, keep both knees bending the right way. In the next few hours, Mark will play against Geelong in his first competitive hit-out in 18 months. From the Herald Sun:
The 25-year-old missed most of 2004 with a nagging groin injury. He has had two knee reconstructions in the past two years and has not played an AFL game since Round 12, 2006….
…”One thing you know about Mark Coughlan is he’s a very tough, hard at the ball player and that’s something that hasn’t been impacted by being injured for two seasons.” (David King)
An early bloomer, Mark has been very badly missed in our midfield, with his return likely to be part of the reason that Wallace is toying with playing Brett Deledio as a Brad Johnson type forward. It’s unclear how quickly Mark will be able to find the sort of form that saw him excite Tigers fans two or three years ago, but it will be wonderful if he can.
