It was ugly. It was frustrating. It was certainly not a memorable match. But it’s a win. And we will take that every time. Even against the not-quite-so Mighty Blues. This was a must win match and we did. With two wins and three losses, we have regained a little bit of respectability. And to be fair, when you were looking at the draw at the start of the year, I would certainly not have expected us to do any better in terms of win/loss (115 points in Round 1 still hurts though).
Once again that big, dumb, ugly, lovable brute that is Matty Richardson won us the game. You can’t not love the guy. If Richmond was to win a premiership, Richo would die of happiness. He lives for the Tiges. And there are some other good signs - Joelly Bowden is continuing to rack up possessions off half-back: just imagine how good he could be if he actually manned up as well! And little Bowden continues to show that he’s not exactly the runty little brother either.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. We’re still not a good team. We’ll win some games, we’ll lose more games and we probably won’t make the eight. But wins like this are the type of wins we often mess-up, the games we should win because we are better than our opposition. And make no mistake, we’re still a better team than Carlton.
Richmond 12. 20. (92)

Carlton 11. 18. (84)
