Oh, ye of little faith, why did you doubt? YOU LITTLE RIPPER! We got a win. That’s the beautiful thing about barracking for the mighty tiges, when you finally give up and are completely surrendered to the idea that you can’t possibly win this week, they pull one out of the bag. As I have mentioned, I wasn’t able to watch any of the game - I was on camp at the time, although I did have the presence of mind to check the scores with about 10 minutes to go, so heard the very last part of the game.
Richo, that big, ugly, dumb, king among men looks like he pulled it out for us - kicking 4 and causing the turning point of the match when he put his body in to nab the pill from Michael Voss and kicked a goal. That man has an ability more than any other to make you simultaneously feel proud and like you want to cry. He’ll take a screamer then kick it out on the full. He is more likely to score a goal from 50m out on a tough angle than anywhere else on the field - including 15m out dead in front. He epitomises everything that is good about Richmond and everything that is wrong with Richmond.
We’re still on the bottom, although it’s only percentage that is stopping us from being 9th (funnily enough something to do with having been beaten by 115 points earlier in the season) but to be brutally honest, there weren’t any of our first four games that ever felt likely to be a win - we’ve had a rotter of a draw. But Carlton this week, and we might not be favourites, but we are a really decent chance to put two-in-a-row together and at 2-3, well that’s quite a bit ahead of the 0-4 I was predicting last week. We’re not a good team, but we might win some games. And I’d just about take that!
